Racism Speech

Good morning everyone. Our campaign is called 'I Am Human'. The reason why we have decided to create a campaign about racism is to raise awareness to the community that racism is still a worldwide issue. Our campaign, #IAmHuman, made this website to offer any necessary advice to the victims and help them practise ways of speaking up safely against racism. This website can show stories of many different victims that has been in the same situation to make each other feel supported and certainly not alone.

Racism is hurtful and ugly. It divides people into 'us' and 'them'. Racism is mostly based on where we come from and the colour of our skin. Whether we are black, white or asian, we are human and humans have feelings. We all look different in shape and size but that is what makes each and every single one of us special. At the end of the day, we're all from the same species, made out of the same micro-organisms and we are all the same underneath.

People experience name calling, physical abuse, getting excluded from groups and others making jokes and negative comments about their race. This could cause depression and it may lead to suicide.

Not all racism is visible. An employer might be searching the list to find people suitable for the job and decide not to employ people with Arabic sounding names.

Racism happens because we are quick to judge. She dresses like this so she must be into business studies. We tend to label each other immediately. To solve this, try not judge immediately, instead try to get to know the person to see how much you have in common.

'No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life,
I'm on the right track baby,
I was born to survive.
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made,
I'm on the right track baby,
I was born to be brave.'

Annie's Story

This is Annie's story.

'Asians', 'Black', 'White' are all words used to categorise us, but not in a good way. I am an Asian and people call me that and sometimes I don't like it. When my class was divided in teams for sport, and when there was an imbalance of   'whites' and 'Asians', one of the 'white' classmates said, 'oh, I'm stuck with the Asians'. First, many of us Asians are good players. It is a game and we can win if all of us cooperates. Secondly, the way this particular person used to describe us is hurtful. 'Oh, I'm STUCK with the ASIANS'. This one line from that person's mouth hurt about 10 of us. This show that racism, however big or small, is hurtful. If I can say one thing to that person again, I would say, 'Please, please think before you act.'
